Tale of Souls Chapter Eighteen
The days moved on, and we couldn’t really do anything. I still can’t get ahold of my parents, and Mako won’t hear a damn thing with Tensei’s name on it for some reason. It’s time to put this damn puzzle together somehow. We’ve been told we need to go see someone at First Avenue in Minneapolis.
“Aight, we should get going?” Kristoff spoke up, “Not trying to ruin the mood but we’re low on time and those of us on a tight schedule need to get Misty out of the garage and get it running so we can meet up at First Avenue in Minneapolis.”
“Misty?” Rana blinked.
“Yes, the FOUR DOOR TEAL CAR that someone can’t quite remember the brand and make of. Ryan’s got the Mitsubishi Mirage, the british racing car green one – and We’ve got the Mercury Mystique. What’s with you today?” Kristoff was still trying to process what just happened, and his wick with Rana was a lot shorter than expected.
“I don’t follow car brands’ dickheads.” Rana quipped.
“I don’t either, I follow what the fuck is on the back of the car when I pop the trunk to put the groceries in.” I laughed, it was my turn to get back in on the bandwagon. I have to sit for ten minutes or so in the car with these two and my husband – so why not. Ryan’s going to stay home with Aura and make sure the fort’s not gonna fly away under our noses.
“Now that we’re all settled, we need to quickly go over what we need to do the minute we step foot inside that building. Who we’re seeing, what we need to do and how we’re going to do it.” Saitou demanded this be more organized, and I don’t blame him. Without a plan all of this is going to fall apart.
“Well, we have a contact there, and we have several things we have to ask and figure out how to deal with the final plans via that. By the time we get ready to get answers, the other two should be with us. And by answers I mean the final answers, I don’t mean the technical, the theory and the preamble – I mean the beef that everyone else can understand.” Kristoff looked at me, taking the words right out of my ever tired mind and mouth. “Are you ok to drive?”
“Probably not, I’m functioning enough to sort out what we need to do and how to achieve our objective but I don’t know if I got enough brain energy to drive as well. I mean shit, I time walked and then got shunted back in time. I also know that with the way I’m feeling there’s a good chance I’m either gonna walk or get shunted again – so if I go dark, just get your bearings from Sai and go from there.” I wasn’t just exhausted, and nor was it just a headache coming on again – I knew I wasn’t going to be in one place for too long. I knew there was a chance something was going to tip me off as soon as we left the haven.
I just hope that I’m wrong.
“Who’s our contact, and what are we asking?” Rana piped in, “If you go dark I want to know NOW what to say.”
“The problem is Rana, we all have questions – we all have been there, and we’ve all been trained to do this at one point or another. You have to believe me when I say, use your instinct. Think not only as yourself but as the four of us, think as one – and think as we used to. When or if I go dark – use that exercise to guide you. It sounds like a star wars yoda type thing to say but it is the only way I can explain it.” I coughed a bit, motioning to see if there was a water bottle nearby, my throat suddenly becoming dry. I need to keep on top of this, or the threat of this is either gonna kill me or shunt me forward or backward. There’s a wave type system, to the times and quadrants collapsing, but we’re beyond the tsunami warning for these – we’re just dealing with the aftershocks.
